The Vampire Diaries 10th Anniversary of the Series Premiere

Happy Anniversary TVD!

For over a century, I have lived in secret. Hiding in the shadows, alone in the world. Until now. I am a vampire and this is my story.” – Stefan Salvatore

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the premiere of The Vampire Diaries season one pilot. Wow…10 years. It’s hard to believe. What an amazing ride this has been.

In February of 2009, Vampire Diaries Online was launched by my sister, Allison. I’ll never forget how excited she was when she told me about this new vampire show based on L.J. Smith’s book series The Vampire Diaries. We were both already huge fans of the vampire genre. Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. And yes….we were self-proclaimed Twihards.

We both had been blogging for a few years. She had ran several blogs dedicated to TV shows, and she asked if I wanted to help her run Vampire Diaries Online. So, of course I said yes, and immediately started reading the 1st 4 books and in no time I was hooked and had fallen madly in love with Stefan and Elena’s love story.

In the months leading up to The Vampire Diaries series premiere, my sister had to return to work full time and to make a long story short, I took the reins of Vampire Diaries Online and ran with it. In the end, I became the sole admin for the site. Twitter was just really getting off the ground, and I’ll never forget engaging with fans and building buzz about the show on social media. I was amazed at how fast our Twitter account grew. And many of my current friendships have stood the test of time, and I am still contact with today.

It was a very special and exciting time, and I will cherish the experience forever. So with that said, today is about taking a trip down memory lane. I’ll be posting coverage and might have a couple of spur of the moment giveaways on social media, so make sure to be following @tvdfansonline on Twitter.

To kick off the coverage, Entertainment Weekly has a wonderful interview with Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, Marcos Siega, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder discussing the casting of Elena, Stefan and Damon and filming the pilot. So head on over to EW to check it out!
