There’s a lot of mystery surrounding this new big bad. What can you reveal about her?

Plec: Part of the fun at the beginning of the season is that we don’t know the identity of or the supernatural definition of the big bad. There is no description for what was in that vault and what clawed creature has literally sunk its talons into Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) minds. So we are looking forward to unraveling that mystery in the first episode and laying the groundwork for a great backstory for this villain.

This villain has the ability to see evil inside of people. What is her main goal, and how does she use that power to accomplish it?

We’re doing a lot with themes of good versus evil, fear of what waits for us at the end, fear of the unknown of death, and this particular entity has the ability to instill great fear of how one might get punished for one’s evil deeds.

This show has always done a great job humanizing its villains. Will a similar tact be taken with this new evil?

Our most successful villains have been pretty nasty with a sliver of a heart, and this villain is no exception.
