Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev hit up the 2014 CW Upfronts green carpet to talk tonight’s season finale with TV Line and Buzzfeed. Check out what the two had to say.

Via TV Line:

First thing’s first: How is Elena going to react to the news of Stefan’s (likely temporary) demise?

“She’s going to be upset, I’m not going to lie,” Dobrev told us. “She’s not going to be doing jumping jacks and high-fiving everyone. But you know Elena; she doesn’t take no for an answer, and she doesn’t let death get in the way of anything. … What is death? Whatever.”

But just because Elena is going to do whatever she can to save Stefan, that doesn’t mean everyone will make it out of the finale unscathed.

“You will see a couple familiar faces pop up tonight, and you’ll also see a few familiar faces disappear,” Dobrev teased. “We’re going to reset everything and make it so that once you die, you’re dead.”

Via Buzzfeed:

Wesley’s immortal character — vampire Stefan Salvatore — recently had his heart ripped out (one of the only ways for a vampire to truly die on the show), but when asked if he feared the reaper had finally come for Stefan, Wesley replied, “I’m kind of numb to these things, to be honest with you. I’ve had so many things happen to me that it’s a little comical. So, yeah, no big deal.”

That’s why he’s hoping the writers start to inject a sense of permanence to the show’s revolving cycle of life, death, and rebirth. “I want them to start killing people,” Wesley told BuzzFeed on the red carpet before The CW’s upfront presentation in New York City on Thursday, the day of the show’s Season 5 finale. “It kind of drives me insane that they don’t. You can’t keep killing characters and bringing them back while using death as a catalyst for us caring about the episode. Death has to the be ultimate fear on our show, so when Stefan is trying to rescue Elena, we’re genuinely terrified she might die. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Great video interview from the ever so charming Paul Wesley from AOL! Paul talks The Vampire Diaries, directing and Smoldy…

Paul Wesley spoke with Zap2It about tonight’s episode, in which Paul Wesley directed. He talks about The Other side and some “easter eggs” (a common theme) during the vision sequences.

“Now that the Travelers brought Markos back things are starting to fall apart,” Wesley says. “I’ve been able to do some really cool visual stuff with the Other Side falling apart and disintegrating. I’m so glad I got to recreate the visual aesthetic of the Other Side because it was so interesting to me, getting to work with the production designer and the creative team to try to make a new way of telling the Other Side’s story.”

And for any super fans out there, keep your eyes peeled for a common theme Wesley wove into his vision scenes like easter eggs. “There’s an interesting thing I did in some of the visions, and I wonder if anyone will pick up on it,” Wesley says. “It’s not like a big deal, and I don’t want to sound pretentious but there’s kind of an interesting theme in the vision sequences that I’ll be curious to see if anyone picks up on. It’s a fun little clue for the fans.”
