The Futon Critic has posted break down of the Vampire Diaries series and characters containing loads of spoilers.

The plot in a nutshell: The new school year marks a new beginning for 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) of Mystic Falls, Virginia. “They will see that Elena is alive and well,” she writes in her diary. “And if I can convince them, then maybe, just maybe, I can believe it myself.” After all, it’s been a year since her parents died – a car wreck which only she survived – and she and her brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, “has an original take on grunge punk, nothing extreme”), have settled into a new domestic status quo with their aunt Jenna. And so, along with her best friends – Bonnie, the amateur psychic (“I predicted Obama, I predicted David Cook, Heath Ledger, Britney’s comeback and I still think Florida will break off and become little resort islands.”), and Caroline, the queen bee (Bonnie: “I say we both throw ourselves at him and whoever he picks gets him.” Caroline: “That’s the same as saying he’s mine.”) – Elena makes a go at resuming life as an ordinary teen girl. Not helping matters: things between Elena and her ex, football jock Matt, are awkward at best while Jeremy has dipped his toe into drug dealing.
That’s all about the change though with the arrival of transfer student Stefan Whitmore. In addition to his looks (“He’s a gloriously, amazingly, epic-ly beautiful young man,” explains the script), he also has a tragic past of his own – his parents passed away as well, leaving him with his great uncle Pete – and it’s not long before the two are exchanging longing glances in class. But there’s a lot more to Stefan than he lets on: the sunglasses he wears indoors aren’t really for his scratched retina, nor is his sensitivity to blood an act, it’s all to cover up the fact he’s… a vampire. “I never should have tried to enter her life,” he writes in his diary (hence the title). “What would she do if she ever learned the truth? About me…and why I’m really here.” Even worse, his arrival coincides with the disappearance/potential murder of a local couple. And if that wasn’t enough: Damon, Stefan’s arrogant, reckless brother, turns up, threatening to derail Stefan’s new life. Yes, it’s a new beginning for everyone.

WAIT A MINUTE! This exactly what i was talking about in my other comment ELENA doesnt have a little BROTHER! She has a little sister and an Aunt because her parents are dead. Tere is no JEREMY! I just wish that someone would please explain to me why they take stuff out of books and add more stuff that does make SENSE! Once again not to be mean but THERE IS NO BROTHER JEREMY!
ARE THEY FREAKIN’ SERIOUS?! Who ever wrote this script should be buried alive! The vampire diaries are already great, they can’t just CHANGE IT! There is no brother jeremy, it’s a sister margareth (4 years old!), There is no aunt Jenna, There’s an aunt Judith! Stefan is not american but itailian and his name is not frekin withmore or whatever, it’s Salvatore. THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE I CAN’T EVEN…!! I can’t believe L.J Smith would let STUPID hollywood whores manitpulate the story into the god damn remake of the OC! Who ever thought this up should feel deep shame! Idiotic money greedy whores is what showbiz is made of! Seriously EVERYTHING IS WRONG! Hopefully no one will watch the show, it’s nothing short of what you deserve! Destorying perfectly good books!
… Horrifying was my first thought … But….. It might not be as bad as it sounds… I can’t seem to find any answers… Was Bonnie black white or other in the books? I know she had red hair, and Meridith had black hair, but now Bonnie has black hair and Meridith has blond hair… and Elena has black now… they even messed up on the brother’s eyes… and what is this about Stefan’s uncle?! Does that mean they are removing Mrs. Flowers? This is just………. Horrifying….. These are the few things that I’ve found in the past ten minutes, imagine what ELSE is wrong… Very disappointing… Also, I’m not sure if this is them or my bad memory but who is Jeremy? Or is that her so called brother? Another thing, why did Margaret age ten years and become a boy? This is…………… well, you already figured it out……………
a 4 year old Margaret wouldn’t make very good TV…
And i can’t tell if Meredith is Vampire Diaries. I’ve only seen Caroline and Bonnie. Tyler and Matt… Stefan and Damon of course… But where’s Meredith?
