The Vampire Diaries On Hiatus Until January 14th 2010
November 14th, 2009 | Posted by in NewsUPDATE: Well…here’s your proof folks. Vampire-Diaries.net has a scan of next week’s Soap Opera Weekly featuring an interview with Julie Plec and confirms the show will be on an 8 week hiatus after next week’s episode. Read the very first paragraph.
The word on the net, is that after next week’s episode “The Turning Point”, The Vampire Diaries will be on hiatus until January 14, 2010. The Futon Critic tweeted the bombshell last night:
“This just in: the November 19 episode of SUPERNATURAL (and presumably VAMPIRE DIARIES) will be the last original until January 14″
As soon as I get confirmation, I’ll update this post. If this is true, it will be very sad times indeed. That’s an awfully long time to wait huh? I can see them not having a show the week of Thanksgiving, but nothing throughout the entire month of December?? It is true that we currently don’t have any other episode titles or summaries though, so it actually makes sense. But I’m also surprised that we haven’t heard anything about it too. Just wanted to give you guys the heads up.

EASIER NOW THEN IF WE DEVOTED A FULL SEASON THEN THEY DO THIS CRAP TO US. BRING ON A NEW SHOW. PS VAMPIRE DIARIES WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT US VOTING FOR THEM FOR THE PEOPLES CHOICE AWARDS. SEE YA
Chelsey, lets not be rational here. You commented saying you enjoyed the show right? Then continue watching it. 8 weeks may seem a long time, but who wasn’t experienced impatience? The actors, actresses, directors, writers deserve a break and lots of rest for their incredible work. I mean, if you are the kind of person that are mad because of a hiatus then (this may be harsh but..) i seriously don’t see you enjoying anything on TV. If you would like to stop watching the show then fine but like @tvdnews had twittered “Strikes me that that’s their loss. Poor them. “. I think the show is better off with lots of devoeted PATIENT fans.

I GUESS WEI SHOULD HAVE MADE OUR SELVES CLEARER, THE HIATUS PART, WELL THAT SUCKS, IT’S THE CLIFFHANGER PART THAT WILL GET US TO STOP WATCHING. Chelsey, your kinda right about the Vampire are in part but to correct you, there are some other reasons why fans are interested in The Vampire Diaries. For me, i watch it because i actually love the show regardless of whether vampires are in or not. Yes, Cliffhangers are not a great way to start a hiatus but if the directors, writers, actors/actresses believe it is then i will just follow (there might be a good reason behind it), because thats what fans do, they support. I mean, its your opinon and clearly we all have no way to sway what you believe in. Sure, you and your group of friends can stop watching the show, but i all i know is that when Jan 14 comes by other 4 mil and possibly fans more will continue to watch the show because they love it.
Eight weeks is nothing compared to 4 months! I was a fan of “Prison Break”, and they had, like 2-4 month hiatuses and that was one addictive show! So, I will def be watching “The Vampire Diaries” when it comes back!

I can understand that if next week’s episode has a cliffhanger, then they’ll definitely go on hiatus. There’s no doubt about it. What other reasons are there cliffhangers if not to make you wait for a ridiculously long time to see it concluded?
YA YOUR RIGHT, WE’LL PROBABLY WATCH IT. WE JUST THOUGHT THAT BECAUSE IT IS A NEW SHOW AND A POPULAR ONE THAT THE PRODUCERS WOULD TREAT ITS AUDIENCE BETTER. IT WOULD NOT BE SO BAD IF IT WAS JUST THE HIATUS, WE HATE CLIFFHANGERS.
: ( That sucks, but honestly no surprise. Doesn’t matter if it’s a new show or not, they air episodes from September to November and then the week before Thanksgiving they show their last episode until January/February. That’s just how the CW and most other networks roll. Not only does it give other shows a chance to air, but it gives the actors a break.
This also double sucks, because next week is suppose to be a HUGE cliffhanger. Freaking CW.
chelsey – This doesn’t really have to do with the producers treating the audience badly. It’s just a known fact that tv shows take a long holiday break, and it’s inevitable. The actors are human too you know, and they want to be with their families as much as we do, so they get a holiday break, just like us. So it’s not bad treatment, it’s just the way it works, and there’s no way around it.
It still sucks though. That’s nearly two months without TVD…sigh.
Yea I know I’m not as thrilled about the cliffhanger part because I kinda know what’s gonna happen by watching the trailer like 20 times. I understand what you and your group of friends feel, I kinda realized the anger and emotion everyones probaly gonna go through for the next two months but it’ll take time to slowly get used to it. I’m not gonna lie but my Vampire Diaires obession is rather unhealthy. Yesterday I spent the whole day in my room on Twitter and YouTube waiting for webclips. I think I might benefit a little from this hiatus.
NOT a HAPPY CAMPER.. i can barely waite 7 days for a new epsiode they are gonna make me waite 8 weeks… this may just be the death of me… UGH!!! Plan B needed ASAP..

omg, i hope that the vampire diaries will give us at least one new episode in december, if not i hope by january i find a new show, and have forgotten tvd.
totally bummed about this, but I understand why they’re doing this. After next weeks episode will have 10 episodes shown, meaning will only have 12 left of the season, and if they decide to show 2 more before 2010 we’d only have 10 left to show from Jan-May. I’m just happy I’ll still have other shows on during December. =]
It will go by fast. We have New Moon, I mean c’mon, all of us will see it a bunch of times. Then we have the holidays, and they always go by quickly. Plus, they are having a marathon in Dec. Before you know it, it will be back.
Then we’ll have VD from Jan thru May. And don’t forget, New Moon will probably hit DVD in March just like the last time. Then after VD is done for the season we’ll have Eclipse at the movies until VD comes back in Sept. Whoo Hoo, hot, studley vamp men for a whole year!
WE WERE WRONG!!! TURNING POINT WAS GREAT. THE ENTIRE SHOW WENT BEYOND ANYTHING WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. WE DON’T MIND THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY, WE ACTUALLY WILL NEED THE TIME TO CATCH OUR BREATH. WOW WAS THIS SHOW OUTSTANDING,GREAT, PERFECT, AND SCAREY. IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT. WE CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS EPISODE. FORGET TWILIGHT THIS IS THE SHOW TO WATCH.
That’s great Chelsey! I was surprised I mean I expected a worse cliffhanger but that was ok, it wouldn’t bother me as much which is great! The only thing that does bother me is the upcoming estrangled relationship between Elena and Stefan
8 weeks? Yikes! This show is great but seriously, that’s not cool. That cliffhanger deserves a tickle, something. 8 weeks. Wow. Doesn’t fan following mean anything anymore? Bummer.
8 weeks is nothing, it will fly by with the holidays. It is just a good time to go out and get the books and read them to get your fix. It will be worth waiting for!!
Just watched turning point again, every guy in the show is so hot! I really do hope that Stefan can talk his way out of this one with Elena, they look so great together. and how hot is the history teacher, he and jenna would make a great couple. Looking forward to the repeats in december and of course january 14

It’s ok Jen, let me ask you this, what do you do during the summer hiatus?? Do you forget about a how much you adore a show like this, and vow not to ever watch it again?? I think not, it’s going to be ok sweetie, only a little over a month to go now. Be glad you found out now, we’ve been dealing with this news for almost 3 weeks now, and it’s been excrutiating, trust me.

Ashlee why complain? 8 weeks may be long but it’ll teach you a life skill you’ll need. All it takes is patience to make those 8 weeks fly by. Just think about it, so far 2 weeks had gone by, we’ll be on the 3rd week of the hiatus. So we are more then halfway there until the new episode. All of us have lives we need to focus on while on the hiatus. So don’t sweat it, and don’t quit watching.
Don’t forget theres that marathon in Decemeber!

Yeah, we had originally heard the 14th, but they officially announced during Night of the Comet, with a brand new promo, that they would be returning the 21st.

Well originally it was thought to be the 14th, but the new episode won’t be airing until the 21st now. Sorry….
There’s no reason to get butthurt about shows taking time off. They record for 12-15 hours EVERY DAY to get you your weekly shows. Considering that they rarely get any time off at all, it is not asking too much to give the actors two months off for the holidays. Almost every show does this.

Well, i haven’t seen any more posts here recently, but i’d like to know when there will be new episodes since january, because i watch them online and the last one i saw was Founder’s Day. I’m not sure when it came on tv, if it was in november or january. But i’d like to know when they will be releasing new episodes please and thanks !(:
Actually the season ended in May and the last episode Founder’s Day aired May 13th. New season starts in September, they are on summer hiatus.
