A bunch of interviews surfaced last night, just as I was heading to bed, so I’ve decided to round them up into one post. IGN talks to Candice Accola, while Zap2It had a chance to chat with both Candice and Zach Roerig on Caroline & Matt’s relationship. Then Robyn ross of TV Guide talks confessions with Sara Canning. Also, check out this really cool BTS photo above of Candice posted by Zap2It from tonight’s episode “The House Guest”.

Interview with Candice Accola & Zach Roerig via Zap2It:

When Zap2it last spoke with executive producer Julie Plec, she made us some promises. “In the last episode before we go away for hiatus, there’s a really great Matt and Caroline moment that I think will make you very happy,” she teased. As soon as we heard that, we had to get the scoop from Zach Roerig and Candice Accola on the grand romantic gesture that might turn things around for one of our favorite Mystic Falls couples.

“It was such a fun scene to shoot,” Zach says of Candice’s big Mystic Grill performance number. “I’ve got a lot of love for Candice. She’s just incredibly talented, and incredibly fun to work with, so to see her get to work in a different capacity was just a really great day on set. She first came out to Hollywood to be a singer and to launch a music career, so she went into it fearlessly.”

“People ask me all the time about whether I’ll sing on the show. I’ve never approached Kevin and Julie about it, because the character wasn’t initially introduced as a musical character, and you don’t want anything to feel forced,” Candice says. Her debut album “It’s Always The Innocent Ones” was released in 2006, before she went on tour with Miley Cyrus as a backup singer.

Interview with Candice Accola Via IGN:

IGN: Any other hints you can give about this week’s episode and what might lead Caroline to that stage?

Accola: I think the biggest thing is that Caroline really wants to let go and feel human again and feel loved. I thought that was such a great moment when Bonnie and Elena came over for the slumber party. It was just so wonderful. It just brought it back to, oh yeah, these are young women in high school. At the end of the day, you really just want to be loved. You just need friends. You just need a sense of family. And so I think that’s kind of what’s on Caroline’s agenda right now. She gave so much of herself to helping Tyler and when that wasn’t returned, it kind of takes away the idea of supernatural and just comes down to, ‘Dude, I thought you were my friend!’ And so I think that’s going to be priority one for Caroline right now, is just getting her sense of friendship and family and love back in her life.

Interview with Sara Canning from TV Guide on Jenna finding out about Isobel:

“She thinks she’s dead. When John is saying, ‘Did they find her body?’ it bothers her, but a large part of her is like, this is what he does — he comes back to town and stirs up stuff just to stir it up,” Canning says. “I think it’s a definite discomfort, but I don’t know that she’s imagined what it would be like to meet Isobel or be told she’s alive.”

If Jenna only knew Isobel was not only alive, but a vampire who’s Elena’s biological mother.

Canning says her character has grown as a parental guardian and as a person making smarter choices, so she’s excited about what lies ahead:

“In the next few episodes we’re going to see something happen that is really going to rock her world and have her question if she is in such a steady and stable spot as she thought she was.”

You know when you walk into a bookstore, and you go the travel section where all the pretty Lonely Planet guides are? The guides covered in pictures that are meant to give you a visual feel for the place? Well heads up, guide writers.

If’n you’re ever planning to do one about Mystic Falls and you want a pic that tells a thousand words, do yourself a favour. Get a shot of the GIANTEST sign you can find that says ‘This Is A BAD, BAD Place For Camping’, put it in lights and smack it there right on the front. Because for all intents and purposes, it would appear that if you go into the woods tonight, every Were that ever there was has decided that Mystic Falls is the place to be.

Sara Canning chats with Mandi Bierly of EW about Jenna’s future. Will Jenna ever find out about the vampires, werewolves and witches? Check out this spoilery scoop about Jenna’s possible “relationship” with Elijah.

Speaking of the Originals, we know Elijah (Daniel Gillies), who’s posing as an author researching small towns, has already met Jenna, who got roped into playing Historical Society hostess in the last episode. Will they be seeing more of each other? “Yes,” Canning says. “When Elijah first comes to town, they have a pretty introductory kind of ‘hello, what are you up to here, this is what I do’ relationship. But we’ll see that grow into something else. And that is all I’m saying.” Could it turn, gulp, romantic? ”She’s been with like every other guy who comes back to town,” she says, laughing. “My dad, every time he watches the show, he’ll call me right after and say, ‘Really? Another guy?’ Which is pretty funny. He’s like, ‘What is going on with your character? She has been around the block.’ Elijah is very charming. That would put her in a weird position, because we all know what his deal is, and I’m sure he’s not gonna tell her. That’d be fun.”

Right before Christmas, TV Guide sent us a video interview with Sara Canning. Here, Sara discusses how she is looking forward to what Jenna is capable of, that infamous stabbing scene, and how she is looking forward to doing some stunt scenes eventually.

Once again, thanks to the CW Source’s Catalina Walsh for sharing this video interview from her set visit of The Vampire Diaries, where some of the cast share behind the scenes secrets from the first half of season 2.

Thanks to TV Guide for contacting us with these new video interviews with Kevin Williamson, Zach Roerig, Sara Canning and Kat Graham from NYCC 2010. Kevin explains why he wanted Caroline to turn and Kat Graham talks Bonnie and Damon.

For the record, this is will be an epically massive recap. Just so’s you know. My apologies for that…

With television – like most things in life – as much as you’d like to think otherwise, you can only ever prepare for what you think is going to happen. When it came to this episode – our first one back after that hideous lapse in viewing networks call a hiatus – this is exactly what I did.

Stupidly.

In reality, I really should have known better.

In quite possibly the most compelling episode to date, there were a number of twists in Plan B that even the most clairvoyant of viewers would have had a crazy hard time emotionally surviving, let alone predicting.

And so it was that we were reminded of that most epic of contributing factors that makes this show great: the creative prowess of Julie Plec & Kevin Williamson, and their innate ability to leave you feeling like you’ve had your heart pulled out of your nose, by pulling a plot stunt (or ten) so wild, so breathtaking, that you get to the end of it wondering how on earth you aren’t dead.

With that in mind, here’s my take on the moments that had us all put our fingers on the speed dial for a paramedic for one reason or another, just in case.

Did It Just Get Hotter In Here?: Making Out For Lost Time

Romantically speaking, the Stefan versus Katherine element of this season is as much about love versus lust as it is about revenge. Not content to tease us all with scenes fraught with more sexual tension than Twilight and True Blood put together, the episode opened with a smack between the eyes view of the private lives of these two former lovers.

Stefan and Elena wake up together in her bed, still caught up in the mildly delicious nature of their secret encounters with each other under the guise of their belief that they have fooled Katherine into thinking they’ve split.

But more importantly, it’s clear that they are as utterly in love with- and soul-bound to each other than ever. The happy but edgy intensity of their relationship can’t help but shine through their frustration at the Katherine dilemma…shining through loud enough for Aunt Jenna to get a bit of an earful a couple rooms down first thing in the morning, as she reveals to Stefan later.

Elsewhere at a little bed & breakfast nearby, Mason and Katherine are spending the same morning nigh on about to devour each other. Their passion is different to Stefan & Elena’s: it’s wild, heady and if we’re being honest, even a bit violent, but for all Mason’s alpha male tendencies it’s clear from the outset that it’s very much Katherine who’s dictating the terms of their relationship.

Either way, oh my stars.

Here’s another great video from last weekend’s New York Comic Con 2010. IGN talks to Steven McQueen, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, Zach Roerig, Kat Graham and Sara Canning. Steven McQueen gets his blush on, when Julie Plec has to correct him about the whole Damon snapping Jeremy’s neck, and whether Damon knew he was wearing the ring. It’s too adorable for words. haha Thanks to Vampire Diaries Source for the heads up on the video!
