Yesterday we learned that Nina Dobrev has been confirmed for the Hub Productions Vampire Diaries Fan Event in Australia this summer.  The event will take place first on July 3rd in Sydney, then on July 4th in Melbourne. Both events are from 9AM to 6PM. More information below!

Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and others will be appearing on Saturday 3rd July in Sydney from 9.00am to 6.00pm and Sunday 4th July in Melbourne from 9:00am to 6:00pm

The event features the guests live on stage for a few stories, anecdotes as well as Question and Answers. There will also be a variety of events throughout the day, such as auctions, raffles and trivia. There will also be merchandise as well as rare collectibles available to purchase from the dealers. You will also have the chance to meet the guests and acquire autographs and professional photographs.

And tickets are on sale NOW!!  We will be having a Cover it Live event with Paul Wesley Fans and I Heart Vampire Diaries, details of that will be posted at a later date.

SPOILER ALERT! Here’s an exclusive first look from EW! Damon and Kelly Donovan, aka Matt’s mom who is portrayed by Melinda Clarke from the March 25th episode A Few Good Men. And below, Julie Plec sheds some light on their “hook up”.

he Vampire Diaries‘ brooding bloodsucker Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is in for one hell of a tasty treat when The O.C.’s Melinda Clarke blows into Mystic Falls as Matt’s hard-partying, absentee mother, Kelly, on March 25. “The two of them hit it off instantly and form a bond that results in some hard-core flirtin’ and sexin’,” coos exec producer Julie Plec, who notes that “Damon isn’t just about the high school girls. He’s a worldly guy, so watching him sex it up with a real woman was very exciting.”

Zap2it caught up with Ian Somerhalder at Paley Fest, and he had some interesting tidbits to share. Thanks to I Heart Vampire Diaries for the tip!

Wow….what an amazing night. Last night Sharie of Paul Wesley Fans and I held a Cover It Live Event for the 27th Annual Paley Fest Vampire Diaries Panel that was held at the Saban Theatre on in Beverly Hills. We had asked our good buddy Melinda @paulwesleylover to be our correspondent, and man did she ever deliver!!  Sharie and I are still waiting on pics from her and a possible video, so will update with entire different post when she has that ready for us.  But let’s just say she has quite an epic tale, you can hear about it on our live talk show we did last night on Blog Talk Radio. Great interview up at DishMag with Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder. Paul talks about the audition process and how he landed the role of Stefan Salvatore.  Ian discusses the intense powers of a “vampire”.  They also have a contest going on where you can win some swag that includes Vampire Diaries bumper stickers. For Wesley, who plays the “Good” brother Stefan, landing the role wasn’t a walk in the park. “Oh my God, hardest I’ve ever worked for a part. I auditioned for the role of Damon three times, four times maybe. Constantly went back for Damon, back and forth, back and forth. They wouldn’t see me for Stefan, they thought I wasn’t right for it. Then they went older for Damon, they passed it to Ian, and they go ‘maybe this will work.’ They brought me in for Stefan and I read for it like four times.”

As for the competition, Wesley said “I then had to screen test against like, three guys from Australia, three guys from London, four guys from New York, five guys from LA. It was like American Idol. It was like ‘go home… go home…’ and ‘you stay… you stay…’” He credits his upbringing with helping him finally score the role, “I don’t know how I got it but I will have to say, I’ve been on my own since I was 16 years old and that’s a long time… I think if they went with the guy who just left his parents’ house I don’t know if he could pull off being 160 years old.”

Like Paul Wesley, Somerholder had to wrap his head around what it means to play a creature that is much more powerful and experienced than any human. “Try for just a second to imagine that as a vampire you have 160 years of experience, life experience, knowledge of humanity, of love, of death, of everything, of history. Then, on top of that, your senses… everything is heightened by 1000% , all the things you hear you have to learn to block out, your sense of needing to feed constantly, having hunger 1000 times more than human have. It’s a very intense proposition.”

Surprisingly, even though his show is riding a wave of vamp fiction, he hasn’t seen or read anything from the Twilight series. His influences go a little farther back. “You know, Lestat [from Interview with a Vampire] is one of the coolest dudes ever… I grew up on the lake in New Orleans, and I remember always thinking ‘there’s vampires over there, there’s vampires over there’”
