One of the things that Ian Somerhalder mentioned in his interview with aSimpleAct, was that he intends on finding a way to reduce the amount of stray animals in the world, starting with his home state, Louisiana. Well check out these t-shirts from St. Tammany Humane Society. They are selling these shirts and if you support this cause, buy one, and snap a pic of yourself wearing the shirt! They plan to put all the pics in a book to give to Ian as a Christmas gift. Purchase yours today!

Remember Theressa and Stephanie from Miami? The two sisters that landed an interview with Ian Somerhalder after the Miami Hot Topic Event? Well they have finally released part one of their interview, and have now come up with a name for their efforts, A Simple Act. Head on over to Vampire Support to watch the video and stay tuned for part two of their interview with Ian! In this one, he mentions a little bit about his foundation we posted about a few weeks ago. Also be sure and follow A Simple Act on Twitter and Facebook. Sounds like they will be doing great things over there!

Many of you that are attending the Unleashed: Bash On the Bayou event on November 13th have asked how things will proceed. Thanks to Natalie of Blood Falls, we now have a detailed schedule of the event. The following is a message Natalie received from the director at St. Tammany Humane Society in response to fans questions.

Meeting Ian:

The Champagne Reception is the best way to meet Ian and chat but after the reception he will be in the main ballroom and will be going around the crowd. Bring cameras. We have only sold 39 raffle tickets to win 2 tickets to the reception so people have a good chance if they want to buy a raffle ticket. The event is Cocktail attire.

Basically the schedule is:

  • Main ballroom event opens at 7:00 and goes to 11:00 (food, drinks, silent auction & dancing)
  • In a small room from 7:00 to 7:45 is the Champagne Reception with Ian
  • After the reception Ian will go to the main ballroom to spend the rest of the evening with all 845 (at the point) fans

Main Ballroom Music:

  • 7:00 to 7:30 We3
  • 7:35 to 7:45 Alysha Black Wimberly

The other day, Ian Somerhalder tweeted a video (see below) made by two sisters, Theressa and Stefanie. They are at the Miami Hot Topic event right now as I type this. Theressa, a film student and Stefanie, president of The Environmental Club at her school, made the following video to ask Ian and if he would be willing to answer some questions about the environment for her school. And guess what? He’s going to do it! Check out the video (@TVD_Chloe inspired ;)), and stay tuned for updates and pics from them and their experience later today! It’s possible they may be interviewing Paul Wesley too, not sure though.

Ian Somerhalder just tweeted a link to his first blog post on Huffington Post, titled “The Oil Isn’t Gone, but the People Are Still Here”. He talks about the BP Oil Spill Disaster and how it has affected this area that he grew up in and what we need to do to help coast communities whole again.

Though six months have passed since the Deepwater Horizon sank and millions of gallons of oil started spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, we are still far from saying, “mission accomplished.” Many people that rely on the rich fisheries and diverse ecosystems of the Gulf to keep their industries going–including shrimpers and oystermen, waitresses and charter boat captains — are still hurting. We can’t just forget about them.

If we want to rebuild the Gulf economy and preserve its special and unique way of life for future generations, we need to move full speed ahead with the recovery and restoration of the Gulf coast. A disaster like this can never happen again. A healthy Gulf — full of oysters and shrimp, brown pelicans and turtles — is not only the cornerstone of the Gulf economy, but also of Gulf culture and Gulf people.

I have exciting news for you guys! We all know Ian has a huge heart, he’s passionate about the planet, energy and furry friends… well guess what? A little birdie called me today to say that…Ian is very close to launching his own foundation! Even more thrilling, he’s going to be inviting all of us to participate with him! Can you imagine working with Ian towards making a difference?!

Ian has a birthday wish coming out soon, with a huge fundraising campaign. Funds raised will go into the foundations fund pool, that will inevitably go to projects making a difference- the best part? One of those projects could be yours!

We here at Vampire Diaries Online, are so proud and honored to be a part of this, and thank Mr. Somerhalder for asking us to participate.

More details to come soon!

Remember the birthday project from Natalie at Blood Falls and Nicki at Ian Somerhalder Network? Natalie has asked us to update you guys on the progress, I’m going let her do that in this letter to the fans (VERY IMPORTANT INFO SO PLEASE READ):

Dear Ian & Vampire Diaries Fans;

The Ian Somerhalder Birthday Project has been a tremendous success and we are now winding down into our final stages of the project. There is some extremely important information contained in this post and I urge all visitors and supporting sites of the project to read.

The first item I want to address is the personally autographed photo of Ian program. At Ian’s request, this “promotion” is winding down and the Shelter has requested that all names & addresses of those who donated $50 or more be sent to them by Monday.

With that said, any donations of $50 or more sent in AFTER 6pm Eastern Standard time on Sunday, October 17th will not qualify for the personally autographed photo. I need to finalize my list and send the email to the shelter. There’s 20+ (probably very close to 30 at this point) names to compile so please be understanding in this.

Ian sends his thanks and appreciation for the support of St Tammany Humane Society.

Now with that said, we are still taking donations as part of the project. The new deadline is November 8th for birthday messages and donations! Remember, we are trying to raise as much money as possible so that we blow Ian away when he gets his final birthday package.

We are just about to top $2000 in this fundraising initiative and I want to see if we can make it to an even $3000.

Now keeping with our theme of Ian himself, I have 2 sets of 2 tickets to give away for Ian’s “Unleashed, Bash On The Bayou” for everyone who donates by October 20th. The draw will be October 21st and everyone who donated qualifies for this contest.

I know that not everyone can donate, and this is why the Birthday Book messages is very important. Considering we average anywhere between 1000 and 3000 hits daily, I would have expected more than 350 birthday messages. So please get your messages in as quickly as possible and please keep them short. The contact form is here and remember to put in the subject line that it is Ian’s birthday greeting.

Head on over to Blood Falls for more details and tips!
