Not sure if you guys have ever seen these, but I instantly became a big fan of Shannon Durkee when she tweeted me her video “All I Want for Christmas Is Ian Somerhalder“. Since then, Shannon has made many more hilarious videos, including “Paul Wesley: Welcome To Twitter“, “Just Can’t Get Enough Vampire Diaries“, but by far my fav is her “Ode To Julie Plec” (posted below).

Well, this past weekend Shannon was at Comic Con and ran into Julie Plec, Paul Wesley and Joseph Morgan. Check out her recap of her “epic” meeting with Julie Plec (Julie remembered her video!)

Shannon Meets Julie Plec, Paul Wesley and Joseph Morgan!

So I’m waiting in front of the soon to be WB party for the cast to show up for a good 3 hours. My friends and I walked to the lobby and I’m sitting around looking for Paul and 2 minutes go by and I’m like wait, that’s Kevin! So I get up and start walking towards him when I stop in my tracks because Julie is right in front of me. I gasped and put my hand over my mouth and stare at her and she stares at me and this goes on for a good 20 seconds and Im like “You’re Julie Plec” and she laughs and is like “Yeah. I didn’t know if you thought I was someone else” and Im like “No I love you. Can I have a hug?” and she’s like “Of course”

As everyone knows, I was able to attend the benefit Ian Somerhalder hosted this past Saturday for St. Tammany Humane Society, and I wanted to give you guys a little recap of my experience. Also, as you know, even though I was already attending this event to support this wonderful cause, I was given the opportunity to represent The Vampire Diaries fandom and presented Ian with a donation in the amount of $11,100 that was raised due to a project Natalie of the-vampirediaires.com started for Ian’s birthday.

Huge thanks to Natalie for choosing me to represent her project and St. Tammany Humane Society’s director, Vaughn Maurice for giving me the wonderful treatment when I got there. I was given my own table for the event, with my name on it and then to top it off, I was also invited to attend the exclusive champagne reception prior to the main event. So I will start with my experience there.

(Thanks to Romancia for this great photo!)

Champagne Reception with Ian

When I first arrived at the champagne reception, I met the wonderful Romancia Love of Romancia Online. She had volunteered to help with the benefit, and had gotten permission to set up a live stream of the reception. I just want to send her a HUGE thanks for doing this. This allowed many fans to experience this who didn’t get a chance to attend the event themselves, and I’m sure they are all forever grateful, because they received an unexpected treat, when Ian walked over during the reception and spoke to everyone, blew kisses, etc. So yeah, a pretty epic moment for the fans. Fortunately, Lisa Capuletco captured a bit of it and uploaded it to youtube. Click HERE to view her page.

Actually, you will see in this video, where I first meet Ian. Romancia had mentioned to the fans that I was right next to him. And he didn’t realize I was there, so I tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Hi, I’m Ruthie.” So he leaned over and smacked me on the side of the face with the biggest kiss. So yeah, a pretty amazing first encounter with Ian Somerhalder. Immediately, he started thanking me for everything, and I told him that we had an early birthday present for him, and we would be presenting him with it during the main event. We posed for a few pics, and then he had to go to the main event.

Check out this great recap from the sisters I mentioned previously that interviewed Ian Somerhalder before the Miami Hot Topic Event. Little did I know that there is another sister and friend that were involved! Thanks to Theressa for allowing VDO to post their experience! If you haven’t seen their interview with Ian, you can view here on their youtube, aSimpleAct. Keep an eye out for Part 2 of the interview, and the outtakes.

First off, here is some information on us:

SISTERS:
Theressa; 21, (@iTheressa): Currently a film student in college, used to be historian/secretary for Environmental club in high school.

Cynthia; 18: Majoring in Marine Biology, took over the Environmental club after Theressa graduated and was President for 2 years.

Stephanie; 16, (@_ItsStephanieG): Currently the President of the Environmental Club at her high school after Cynthia graduated last spring

FRIEND:
Talia; 23, (@FadesToBlack): Goes to college with Theressa and is also a film student.

Let’s start from the beginning…

We got excited when we found out that Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley were coming to Miami for the Hot Topic TVD tour. My sisters and I got to talking about how amazing Ian was for caring deeply for the environment and how he always tweets links to interesting articles. That’s when the light bulb lit up above our heads.

Stephanie is the president of her environmental club at her high school. So I (Theressa) came up with the idea to make a video to grab Ian’s attention to see if we can interview him and discuss issues involving the environment to show it to the club and to encourage more students to get involved.

So we got the video done and uploaded it to Twitvid two weeks before the event. We sent it to Ian, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, Chris McLaughlin, and a few others. We sent it to Vampire Support and Vampire Stalkers and they retweeted it (thanks!). The Hot Topic event was only four days away and we were getting anxious!  No one responded but we were determined.

Of the morning of October 21, two days before the event, while I was getting ready to go to school, I receive a text message.  It’s a Tweet from Ian.  Since all of Ian’s tweets go to my phone, I thought he just tweeted about another article but what caught my attention was this: “Wow! Loved your video! I want you to connect with….” That is when I realized that it was actually a direct message from Ian himself! I was shocked and got really excited! I texted my sisters and Talia that he saw the video! {BTW, just looked at the DM again… I received it at 10:23AM… We met him on October 23 aka 10/23. Coincidence? xD }

Thanks to Warner Brothers for sending us these official photos from yesterday’s Hot Topic Event in Miami, FL. A sea of screaming ladies and some gents I’m sure, of all ages, filled the Q&A area yesterday waiting for Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder to emerge on stage. But not until they melted the hearts of many at the Hot Topic signing. Hands were kissed, and high fives were made. This may have been the best turn out in all 6 tour stops this year. But don’t quote me on that. Please enjoy these photos, and we should have video from the event shortly after I do some digging on Youtube.

View the rest of these beautiful moments after the cut!

It all started with a ReTweet on September 30th when I first found out that Ian Somerhalder and Candice Accola would be gracing Dallas with their presence at a local Hot Topic Store.  I quickly took the news straight to @tvdfansonline and soon word spread fast amongst the TVD fans!  Then on October 1st I was excited to hear that HT was already selling the shirts and wristbands so I quickly purchased 2 for me and my sister Maria.  As the day grew closer I was getting a bit anxious.  I kept communicating with Ruthie about the event which made this seem even more real.

On the morning of I had to attend a baptism but would sneak in tweets from time to time to see how many were already heading up to the mall.  As soon as the baptism was over off I went to change, pick up my sister and speed on over to Stonebriar!  When we arrived we headed straight to the end of the line.  There were quite a few people there but I did not let that discourage me.  I was going to meet Ian after all.  As the HT employees or “counters” as we called them, would come around asking us to see our wristbands we found out we were roughly numbers 170-180 in line.  There were still plenty more people who needed to show up.

My sister and I quickly made friends with those around us exchanging cell numbers promising to share any and ALL pics any one of us took from any angle.  All the while I was atweetin’.  It was amazing to have made friends thru Twitter as well.  I was so new to Twitter I hardly had any followers but during that time as I would take pics and post them @tvdfansonline would Retweet and I would get responses from everywhere.  That in itself was AMAZING!

We would like to thank Shira (@shirarose1) for agreeing to represent Vampire Diaries Online at the Vampire Diaries New York Comic-Con Panel and Signing! Check out her recap of her experience!

MY TVD NYCC EXPERIENCE

Here’s a few things you should know about me:

1) I’ve never been a fan of vampires (or any other supenatural media)

2) I’ve never been all that into teen shows (even when I was a teen — over 15 years ago)

3) I don’t own a computer and have never been on Facebook, MySpace, YouTube or any other social networking/media site other than my recent foray into Twitter

The first time I tried Twitter was about 6 months ago. Why you might ask; well, because I fell in love with a teen vampire show — TVD. What are the odds of someone like me ever even watching TVD? If you guessed zero to none, you wouldn’t be far off. But, some of the best things that happen in life are often the most unexpected.

So, here I am, a season into TVD, and not only am I still enamored with the show, but, I’ve fallen in love with the TVD twitterverse family. So when I heard TVD was coming to NYC for the NY Comic Con, I did something else I’ve never done before — I went to my very first fan event ever.

Remember Jessica and Brannan, our friends from Covington, GA that shared the first fan encounter with Vampire Diaries cast here on Vampire Diaries Online? Well, first I want to say, I had the chance to meet these lovely ladies back in January of last year, and have become VERY good friends with them. When I visited the set of The Vampire Diaries, they were so nice and generous to show me around in “Mystic Falls”, which eventually led to an amazing set experience that I will never forget.

Since then, Jessica and Brannan created a website called VampireStalkers.com. There they document their set experiences, meeting the cast, and have actually developed a wonderful relationship with the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. Jessica has been fortunate to work as an extra on several episodes. And this summer they have been working on Fan Experience Scrapbooks that include stuff sent in from fans all over the world.

Well, this Fall after finding out that the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn would be shooting scenes in Baton Rouge, LA, Jessica and Brannan have decided to extend their Vampire Stalking adventures! And that’s not all, they plan to spend a portion of their time while they are there to help with relief efforts for the oil spill that has devastated the Gulf Coast area. But they could use some help funding there trip, and that’s where you come in. Please head on over to VampireStalkers.com for more information!  I’ll be joining them on their trip at some point, because I live only a few hours away from Baton Rouge and New Orleans, so I’m really excited! This is my chance to return the favor and show them around in an area that I’m familiar with!

Huge thanks to my best buddy Erin (@speedmouse) for this amazing recap of her experience at the Hub Productions Vampire Diaries convention in Sydney, Australia. Hopefully we will have some pics to add soon! Until then, here’s a photo from the event that was just too irresistible not to post.

When you first tell your friends and family that you’re going to a fan convention, inevitably there is that first few seconds when some of them look at you as though you’ve just recited the TiVo instruction manual in Klingon.

Thankfully, the day I’d told my mum it’s what I was planning to do, she had been through it all once before with me when Hub Productions (I don’t care if it sounds like I’m sucking up – I think you guys are freaking awesome for what you do) brought the first Supernatural convention out to Oz, and was subsequently very excited for me.

I’d just turned 28 the weekend before, so she knew that there are few birthday presents a girl can give herself that are more gorgeous, more lovely and – let’s face it – more self-indulgent than a meet and greet with two hot vampires, a beautiful girl (or her evil doppelganger – it was hard to tell) and a werewolf.

And so it was, after being ushered in out of the FREEEEZING cold at about 9am, we took our seats inside the Auditorium and were warmed up by viewing the first of the fantastic entries into the video competition. The competition, as a lot of you will know, was to create a short vid of the TVD star guest of your choice that if picked, would be played as that guest entered the auditorium & then later be given to them as a gift.

Well, look around TVD tweeps, cause there are some SERIOUSLY talented people in our little family (or maybe not so little these days, considering it’s apparently one of the most pirated shows in television today, lol).

After the morning mayhem that was photos with the guests (which was FANTASTIC – you are SO lucky America, that we Aussies were *made* to give them back, cause lord knows after that session we weren’t WILLING to) we waited on the best parts of the day to start – the Q & A sessions.

Here’s a portion of a great recap from Jacqui of Paul Wesley Australia! She was fortunate to attend the event in Mebourne. Also Jacqui was the winner in the video contest for Paul Wesley’s intro. Check out her photo opp pic with him below and how he signed it! So happy for her!

For Americans, yesterday was Independence Day — for the Australian fans of The Vampire Diaries in Melbourne — it was the day their wildest dreams came true.

Twitter is thriving today with tweets from fans who attended both the Sydney and Melbourne leg of the convention, there’s a thousand stories all running at once about moments with Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino and Paul Wesley and they all, however retold, share the same words; you hear them again and again:

Beautiful. Charming. Lovely. Gracious. Impossibly gorgeous.

And the thing of it is, with this cast, there’s not a word of it that isn’t the absolute truth. If I learned anything at all yesterday it’s that this is a bunch of actors who feel completely indebted to their fan-base for all the support they’ve given their show and those don’t come across as empty words from the likes of Damon Salvatore himself, Ian Somerhalder, ‘without you guys,’ he said during his Q & A session, ‘there wouldn’t be a show’.

Read the rest of the recap!

Thanks to Dixie for allowing us to post these adorable photo opp pics  of she and Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev! She attended the Sydney Hub Production Event in Australia! You can follow her on Twitter to read about all the details of her experience and view the rest of her pics on her Twitpic. I can’t wait to see more photo opp pics as they roll in. If you went to either the Sydney or Melbourne Fan Event in Australia, please leave a comment or tweet me, I want to see your pics!

Check out this awesome fan encounter recap from Tiff (@Tiffyxox). She agreed to tell her story here on VDO, and we were so happy to allow her a platform to do so! As you all probably know, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev were in London at a casting signing at HMV yesterday, well there were some that showed up to get a wristband for the signing, and didn’t. Tiff was one of the “unfortunates” so to speak, but didn’t give up trying, check out her story below!
