If you follow us on Twitter (@tvdfansonline), you know that the weekend was a buzz with the first Vampire Diaries convention by Creation Entertainment, that took place in Nashville, TN. Thanks to all that kept us updated from the event, @tvdnews, @TVAfterDark, and @vampireidiaries. And huge thanks to those that shared photos, especially @KYChelsMarie. I’ve posted a couple of her photos below but you can view the rest on her Twitpic profile in the link provided. Thanks to @TVAfterDark for the photo of David Anders.

On Saturday, Daniel Gillies (Elijah), David Anders (Unlce John) and Joseph Morgan (Klaus) appeared on stage for their Q&A panels. Here are some photos and highlights from their panels.

Highlights from Daniel Gillies panel via @tvdnews:

  • Elijah will be pissed when he wakes up.
  • On s3: nobility will have to take a backseat to revenge.
  • he’s learning about photography in his free time.
  • Daniel was “incredibly personable, asking questions, complementing fans, feels like we’re all at his place hanging out”.
  • on heart snatches, prop was latex spongy balls covered with fake blood.
  • not surprised by fan reaction to Elijah, on reading it, he knew that he’d grow on audience.

Highlights From David Anders panel via @TVAfterDark:

  • David Anders ia going to be on a zompire film. It’s dark & awesome. He had to wear contacts he couldn’t see through.
  • Will you be back on the show as a ghost? It’s a possibility.
  • What is your fave scene on TVD? Says the scene where he died for Elena.

Via @tvdnews:

  • First cut of finger cutting scene was too gruesome to use.
  • Asked if there is ad-libbing on TVD- yes, some. He and Ian ad libbed a lot.
  • What was he like in high school? Short, funny, class clown. Liked reading aloud in different voices.

Highlights From Joseph Morgan panel via @tvdnews:

  • Has been teased by producers that Klaus might be infatuated with someone season 3. Will keep asking for it.
  • Had to force Gillies. To be quiet during scenes where Elijah is daggered – Gillies would crack them up with comments.
  • They had him in the trunk for the whole scene before his first appearance.
  • This (his role on TVD) is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Has always wanted to play a supernatural creature.
  • Last season his chair said “cast”, is happy to have one with his name. (Joseph is now a series regular on the show)
  • He loves playing the bad guy and causing the drama that the good guys must fix.
  • Favorite part of playing a vampire is the power and fearlessness, intimidating people as Klaus is fun.

This past weekend hundreds of UK Vampire Diaries fans flocked to Birmingham for Rogue Events 3rd annual Insurgence convention. This being only the 2nd year that it involved Vampire Diaries cast. In attendance were Paul Wesley, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, David Anders (Uncle John) and Lauren Cohan (Rose).

Nothing but praises and cheers from fans about how wonderful the cast was. And the cast even boasted about how much they loved the convention. Even Paul Wesley claimed it was the best convention he had ever been to. So we are so happy the convention was such a huge success, and Rogue Events has already announced plans for an Insurgence 4 convention. Be sure and stay tuned to their website for further details to come.

One of the highlights of the convention, was our dear friend Jamie Christlow, follow him on Twitter @Jamiechristlow, he just happens to slightly resemble one of our favorite vampires and all the ladies flocked to have their photo taken with him. Jamie happens to be a HUGE Vampire Diaries fan himself and a great supporter of VDO. Check out the awesome photo above of Jamie and the entire group! So fun! You know when you walk into a bookstore, and you go the travel section where all the pretty Lonely Planet guides are? The guides covered in pictures that are meant to give you a visual feel for the place? Well heads up, guide writers.

If’n you’re ever planning to do one about Mystic Falls and you want a pic that tells a thousand words, do yourself a favour. Get a shot of the GIANTEST sign you can find that says ‘This Is A BAD, BAD Place For Camping’, put it in lights and smack it there right on the front. Because for all intents and purposes, it would appear that if you go into the woods tonight, every Were that ever there was has decided that Mystic Falls is the place to be.

David guest starred in the TV series The Vampire Diaries in 2010 and 2011 across 9 episodes as John Gilbert the biological father of Elena.

LAUREN COHAN

Please welcome to Insurgence 3 LAUREN COHAN. Lauren Cohan is an American actress. Her best known roles to date are that of the role of Bela Talbot on Supernatural and her role as Rose on The Vampire Diaries. In March, she joins the television series Chuck in recurring role playing Vivian as a “charming, sophisticated socialite” enrolled in Oxford.

Please head on over to Rogue Events Insurgence page for ticket information.

Jules wakes in the forest after another night as a wolf. Only this time, she’s been busy. She is bloodied up, and gets up to realise that she has slaughtered a bunch of campers in the night. Somewhat remorselessly, she begins to stack them in order to burn them and destroy the evidence. But before she gets very far, she hears the rumble of a police car engine.  The officer gets out of the car, to find Jules in a precarious position, hovering over a body. Without missing a beat though, Jules feigns shock and grief, pretending to be a member of the camping group, telling the officer that wolves came in the night and attacked their camp. The officer tells her not to worry, and goes to the car to radio in the emergency. At which point Jules beats him to death with a giant log. As you DO.  Seriously. Over you, Jules. You and your givin’ dogs a bad name.

At the Boarding house, Elena has gone to meet Stefan. In his bedroom. Where he appears. Without a shirt. I’ll be honest, it was one of those moments when I found myself being a lot more thankful than usual to find myself living in a house where The Vampire Diaries gets played on a plasma in HD every week. It ALSO made me think that Elena also possibly has a plasma and watches  The Vampire Diaries in HD. Why? Because after her tough decision to not be with Stefan until she felt safe again (good luck with that, babycakes) in Masquerade, it would appear Ms Gilbert has been compelled to reverse her thinking about her relationship with her one true love. Loved up, and back in each others arms, they kiss, mutually deciding to stop mucking around and be together. Stefan, unfortunately finds himself ruining the moment, by reminding Elena of the reality they have before them. Klaus is still a threat and they cannot afford to sit and be idle, no matter how ironclad Elijah’s promise of protection appears to be. Elena, however, has no intention of breaking her promise to Elijah to keep herself out of trouble until the time comes. Stefan tells her that she can keep her promise then, but he is not bound to the same promise; tells her of his plans to find and speak to Isobel, in order to find out more information about Klaus and the power of originals. Regardless of Elena’s plans, Stefan has no intention of going quietly into the night. He has an enemy, and wants to find about as much as he can before he inevitably faces him. As they discuss their plans, Stefan takes a shot of vervain, sticking to his Katherine-inspired plan to build up an immunity to the corrosive herb. He knocks it back in one fell, burning shot. Apparently vervain is one hot tamale when it comes to the taste buds of fanged types.

David Anders talks Uncle John with TV Fanatic and what the second season of The Vampire Diaries has in store for the residents of Mystic Falls.

What can we look forward to this season?
There’s the big werewolf storyline cooking up. As far as I’m concerned, Elena walks in after Katherine slices my fingers off and stabs me and she’s got a big decision to make. There’s a lot of Katherine and Elena. Nina’s got a lot of work.

Why did John kill Anna?
The fact that she’s a vampire. He saw that she might have dragged my nephew into vampiredom. I don’t think John approved of that. John is Jeremy’s only male figure in his life, so he treats it like a father/son relationship. It was a hard decision for the producers to make, to let her character go.

Will Uncle John and Elena find a way to get along?
It’s extremely difficult for Elena to see any good in me. I’m not well liked around Mystic Falls [laughs].

Though in last month’s Vampire Diaries cliffhanger Elena’s doppelganger brutally attacked his portrayer, David Anders (John) confirms that he’ll be back for the season premiere. And beyond that?“That’s up in the air right now,” he says. “They haven’t picked up [my] option yet. I feel like the character has a lot of legs and you can go in many different directions with him. But ultimately it’s [executive producer] Kevin Williamson’s choice.”

Although on paper the odds of John surviving would appear slim — the dude got his fingers chopped off and took a blade to the gut — Anders reminds fans, “People don’t always die from knife wounds.”

Here’s a brief Q&A with David Anders via TV Guide Magazine.  David will be playing John Gilbert, the uncle  of Elena and Jeremy Gilbert, who has just come back to town.  See him tonight on The Vampire Diaries episode “Under Control” at 8/7pm central.

Who’s your latest character we love to hate?
He’s John Gilbert, the uncle of Elena and Jeremy, their father’s brother. He and Aunt Jenna have history. He’s a smug, overconfident individual who’s toying with everybody in Mystic Falls. [Laughs] Nobody likes Uncle John.

Why is John back in town?
He’s a vampire slayer of a sort. He knows more than he should about vampires and holds the information over Damon’s and Stefan’s heads so they can help me when I need them. Damon and John have a lot of good scenes. He’s not afraid of Damon, because for some reason, he can’t hurt John.

Who are his allies?
The town council is eating out of his hand. He’s one of the town’s favorite sons who’s returned.

What are his goals?
I can’t go into his end game, but he’s there to complicate everyone’s life. He certainly messes with [fellow vampire hunter] Alaric.

Will he seduce any of the town’s lovely ladies?
I’ve been told that there will be some of that action going on. [Laughs] It won’t be Jenna.

Here’s an awesome Q&A with David Anders by Starry Constellation Magazine. David really delivered on The Vampire Diaries Scoop! Check it out

***Spoiler Alert***

Q. What can you tell us about your character Jonathan Gilbert and about his back story, both the back story you were provided and the one you created? Did you watch the show at all to get a feel for it?

A. He is Elena and Jeremy’s uncle and I’ve been having a lot of stuff with Damon, Ian Somerhalder’s character, and my character is not at all afraid of Damon. We find ourselves in a bunch of pissing contests going toe to toe. My character proves to be a good foe for Damon.

I watched one episode of the show the night before I flew out here. I watched one episode to get the feel of the show and get a little back story going. They offered the part to me and I really had no idea about the character. I accepted the part without really knowing anything about it, I was like, “Well that sounds like fun!” Ian Somerhalder and I were going to do a movie together last year and it ended up losing funding. I was friends with him and thought it would be a fun time, and it is, it’s proved to be just that. I have been having a blast, they are a great group of people.

Q. You mentioned your connection with Ian, is there any other reasons that you wanted to be a part of the show?

A. I thought it would be fun and it’s kind of a hit for the CW, it gets good ratings, and I thought coming to Atlanta to shoot would be fun. I play bad guys, that’s what I do, and they told me I would be kind of a villain in the show.

Q. Is there anything about the role that you find challenging?

A. No, not so far, not so far. Everything that they’ve given me has been well within my wheelhouse. I look forward to the challenges that the writers will present me with in the future.

Q. Executive producer Julie Plec has said your character will further complicate matters, can you tell us a bit more about your characters relationship with Damon?

A. Just like his great grandfather, the original Jonathan Gilbert in 1864, he knows far too much about vampires, more than he should know about vampires. So I’m a know-it-all and I hold the information that I have over Damon and Stefan’s heads threatening to expose them in Mystic Falls if they don’t play ball with me. There is a lot more than that which I can’t really go into.

EW has an exclusive first look at David Anders on The Vampire Diaries. Check it out! And beware below, if you don’t want to be spoiled.

Vampire Diaries execs didn’t have to cut through any bloody red tape to cast David Anders as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, Jonathan Gilbert. “When we started talking about this role, I immediately thought, ‘What about Sark from Alias?’ executive producer Julie Plec recalls. “We called his agent the next day and the day after that [the deal was] done.”It’s fair to say Anders’ arrival in Mystic Falls will be slightly more complicated. The Alias and Heroes alum makes his debut in the April 15 episode when it comes time for Elena and Jeremy to sell their father’s doctor office. “He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” explains fellow e.p., Kevin Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else]. His intentions are not pure.”

We wouldn’t have it any other way. Would we?
