OpportunityNation Launches “Mentor Chat Series” with Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham

LOS ANGELES (April 21, 2011) – OpportunityNation, a campaign powered by the people to focus on the revitalization of the American Dream, announces today the launch of its “Mentor Chat Series,” which will allow the general public to engage with opinion leaders and successful industry experts. The series serves to provide tangible tools and advice to people as they pursue their dream career.

The inaugural chat will be hosted by E! News correspondent Michael Yo and feature “Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham. The singer/actress/writer/dancer will speak about her experience breaking into the industry and the people and organizations that helped her along the way. After a string of guest spots and commercial gigs starting at age six, Graham was selected at 17 by the Coca-Cola company to star as one of the “Fantanas” in an international campaign to promote their soft drink Fanta. Keeping the importance of education in mind, she simultaneously completed her college degree in recording engineering during this time. Since joining as a regular on the hit series “Vampire Diaries,” Graham has continued pursuing her passion in music, recently completing a world tour with The Black-Eyed Peas and releasing her first single, SASSY.

Fans can join the conversation by submitting questions for Kat at OpportunityNation.org/MentorChats and watch the LIVE interview on April 26th at 1 pm PT to see their questions answered and hear advice on creating a path to doing what you love and overcoming adversities along the way. Question submissions will also be accepted during the live chat by tweeting them @oppnation or posting on the organization’s Facebook, Facebook.com/OpportunityNation.

Both Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder attended the annual Trevor Live fundraising event.  Trevor Live is an annual West Coast fundraiser that is an evening of comedy, music and awards in support of the life-saving work of The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. So far only videos and a photos of Paul Wesley have surfaced, nothing of Ian Somerhalder yet. Here’s a great shot of Paul on the red carpet courtesy of Daylife and a video interview from Jim Halterman. Paul explains why he supports The Trevor Project.

Check out these great shots of Kat Graham attending US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood “Stars Who Care” Event. Doesn’t she look awesome?? I have said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love Kat Graham’s funky style. A lot of what she wears reminds me of my 80′s days. And then her makeup is always perfection, and she does it herself. She’s an amazing makeup artist. Thanks to Katerina Graham Source for these photos and you can view many more over in their gallery.

As everyone knows, I was able to attend the benefit Ian Somerhalder hosted this past Saturday for St. Tammany Humane Society, and I wanted to give you guys a little recap of my experience. Also, as you know, even though I was already attending this event to support this wonderful cause, I was given the opportunity to represent The Vampire Diaries fandom and presented Ian with a donation in the amount of $11,100 that was raised due to a project Natalie of the-vampirediaires.com started for Ian’s birthday.

Huge thanks to Natalie for choosing me to represent her project and St. Tammany Humane Society’s director, Vaughn Maurice for giving me the wonderful treatment when I got there. I was given my own table for the event, with my name on it and then to top it off, I was also invited to attend the exclusive champagne reception prior to the main event. So I will start with my experience there.

(Thanks to Romancia for this great photo!)

Champagne Reception with Ian

When I first arrived at the champagne reception, I met the wonderful Romancia Love of Romancia Online. She had volunteered to help with the benefit, and had gotten permission to set up a live stream of the reception. I just want to send her a HUGE thanks for doing this. This allowed many fans to experience this who didn’t get a chance to attend the event themselves, and I’m sure they are all forever grateful, because they received an unexpected treat, when Ian walked over during the reception and spoke to everyone, blew kisses, etc. So yeah, a pretty epic moment for the fans. Fortunately, Lisa Capuletco captured a bit of it and uploaded it to youtube. Click HERE to view her page.

Actually, you will see in this video, where I first meet Ian. Romancia had mentioned to the fans that I was right next to him. And he didn’t realize I was there, so I tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Hi, I’m Ruthie.” So he leaned over and smacked me on the side of the face with the biggest kiss. So yeah, a pretty amazing first encounter with Ian Somerhalder. Immediately, he started thanking me for everything, and I told him that we had an early birthday present for him, and we would be presenting him with it during the main event. We posed for a few pics, and then he had to go to the main event.

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend a very exciting event held by St. Tammany Humane Society hosted by none other than our wonderful Ian Somerhalder. Not only did I attend the event, I represented the Vampire Diaries Fandom who had donated to Natalie’s (of the-vampirediaries.com) birthday project and presented Ian with a donation of $11,100. It was an amazing experience. Here are some videos that were captured during the event thanks to the awesome Romancia of Romancia Online including the actual presentation to Ian and the director of St. Tammany Humane Society.

So later, more to come including pics and possible videos. Stay tuned! Thanks to lisacapuletco for capturing this portion of Romancia’s Ustream of the Champagne Reception where towards the end, Ian gives me my first smackeroo of the evening. :D
