Stephen Martines has landed a recurring role on the CW’s freshman drama “Vampire Diaries.”

He will play a bad-ass vampire named Frederick who is locked in the tomb where Katherine (Nina Dobrev) was once thought to be and is up to no good when released.

Following last night’s episode, which revealed that Katherine is not in the tomb, the vampire drama is going on a six-week hiatus, returning with originals on March 25.

Stephen Martines, a former soap star who started off on “General Hospital” and “The Guiding Light,” recently recurred on TNT’s crime drama “The Closer, ” where he played a news reporter who asked Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) some tough questions.

Keck’s Exclusives is reporting that Sterling Sulieman has been cast to play a Union Civil War soldier just released from “the crypt”. Check it out!

Come February, Vampire Diaries will reveal that Katherine the Late (Nina Dobrev) isn’t the only entombed vampire someone is trying to release from the Mystic Falls crypt. The popular CW show’s executive producer Julie Plec tells me, “we have a union soldier down there named Harper who we’ll be seeing soon.”

Very soon. All My Children vet Sterling Sulieman will debut as Harper on February 11 and stick around for at least three more episodes. Sterling can also be seen as CTU Agent Tac on this season’s 24.

Sulieman shared his excitement about his new role with his Twitter followers, saying, “Not going to Atlanta till Monday! but I got fitted for my Vampire Eyes. Also got to try on the black ones from true blood. Creepy.”

I’m thinking Harper’s arrival may be especially good news for the bewitching Bonnie, who could use a break from casting spells.

This just in from EW. Ausiello is reporting that Melinda Clarke has been cast to play Kelly Donovan, Matt and Vicki Donovan’s mom!  Here’s the scoop!

Julie Cooper’s comin’ to Mystic Falls!Sources confirm to me exclusively that Vampire Diaries has tapped the inimitable Melinda Clarke (The O.C., CSI) to play Kelly Donovan, Matt’s irresponsible, hard-drinking absentee mother.

How rotten is this woman? She didn’t even bother to show up to her own daughter’s funeral. (In other words, my kind of gal!)

I’m told Clark’s scenery-chewing boozehound will blow into town in March and stick around for at least three episodes.

Memo to Kevin Williamson: Let’s get that series regular paperwork started now!

Well, well, well.  Looks like Kristin from EOnline has some extra info about Mia Kirshner’s role on The Vampire Diaries.  She has recently been cast to play Alaric’s wife Isobel.  Check it out!

We’re about to find out on Vampire Diaries, because sources tell me there’s much more to the casting news that just broke about Mia Kirshner (24, The L Word) joining the cast for a recurring role.

While it’s true she’s playing Isobel, the wife of Matt Davis’ ridiculously named schoolteacher character Alaric, she might already not be of this world…

According to my sources, Kirshner will appear on the series beginning Jan. 21, but her scenes won’t be in present-day. They will be in flashbacks because her character Isobel is already dead.

And you’ll never guess who killed her. No really, go ahead, try! Though my sources have asked me not to spoil the big twist outright, suffice it to say that Isobel died at the hands of a main (hot) character we already know. (Did I mention hot?)

Read the rest of the article.

Thanks to Vampire-Diaries.net for alerting us to this interesting news.  Brandon Quinn (Big Wolf on Campus) has been cast to play a character named Lee.  They have some theories brewing in their spoiler zone of their forum, so go check it out!

Thanks to @ItsApril_I for the heads up! Mia Kirshner (L-Word and 24 Alum) has been cast to play the role of Isobel, Alaric’s wife.  Here’s the scoop from EW!

Here’s proof that the TV biz hasn’t completely closed up shop for the holidays: L Word and 24 alum Mia Kirshner has just inked a deal to join the cast of The Vampire Diairies on a recurring basis, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Kirshner will be playing the role of Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of Matt Davis’ history teacher, Alaric.

The actress will make her debut in the Jan. 21 episode, which, come to think of it, has already been shot. How will VD boss Kevin Williamson pull that one off? “Ever hear of an 11th hour reshoot,” sniffs an insider. “That’s what they’re doing.” There’s no reason to be nasty about it.
