As we tweeted earlier, Deadline is now reporting that Joseph Morgan has officially signed on to play “Klaus”. TV Line’s Michael Ausiello was originally the one to break the news. Ausiello also reported the other day that Klaus will make his debut in the April 21st episode.

Joseph Morgan has now been signed to play him. Morgan, who’ll next be seen in the Henry Cavill-starrerImmortals, played supporting roles in the Peter Weir-directed Master and Commander, and Oliver Stone’s Alexander. He plays the title character in ABC’s upcoming miniseries Ben Hur. He was set for the show after more than 100 actors read for the role all over the world. Morgan’s deal was made by WME, Richard Koenigsberg Management and London-based Curtis Brown Group.

So…what do you guys think, now that we have official confirmation? Check out this fanmade video below showcasing Joseph Morgan in some of his previous projects.

Michael Ausiello over at TV Line just dropped a bombshell. He says that English thesp Joseph Morgan is VERY close to signing a deal to play Klaus. What do you guys think? Sound off in the comments!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that English thesp Joseph Morgan is nearing a deal to play the oft-referred-to-but-never-seen member of the Originals.

Joseph who? I’ll get to that in a second, but first you should know that Morgan’s near-casting caps a months-long manhunt for Klaus. In a recent interview with EW.com, exec producer Julie Plec estimated that more than 100 actors across multiple continents had read for the part. Plec also hinted that despite fans pitching some big-name actors for the role — Jason Dohring, Henry Cavill, and Gale Harold to name a few — they would likely hand the plum part to a relative unknown.

“This idea that there might be somebody out there that no one’s really familiar with yet that can be a new fresh face that we can exploit…in all the good ways… [is exciting],” Plec told EW. “I think our show works so well because we don’t really stunt cast.”

Which brings us back to Morgan. Although the 30-year-old actor’s resume consists primarily of British films and TV series, he appeared stateside in Oliver Stone’s Alexander and the Russell Crowe blockbuster Master and Commander. He also starred opposite Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk in ABC’s Ben-Hur miniseries.

UPDATE: E!Online has just posted some scoop regarding the deal, saying a CW insider says that the casting is “just speculation at this point.” We will continue to keep you guys updated as any more news comes in.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with Julie Plec recently where she talks about why they are not taking lightly the task of finding the right actor to play the infamous Klaus.

Fans have been more than happy to offer their picks online. “We like the people on Twitter who are like ‘Alexander Skarsgard has to be Klaus!’ I’m like really? ‘Cause that’s original,” Plec says, laughing. They’re willing to think outside the box. “The big important elements of this character are charisma and gravitas. You’ve got to be able to be afraid of this guy, whether you’re afraid of him because he looks scary or because he’s so charming that the fact that he can snap your neck with his pinky would take you by surprise. So whether he’s an Old Word-flavored guy or new hip, contemporary, speedy kinda guy, that remains to be seen. We’ll see what actor we connect to the most.” The character will make his appearance by season’s end, Plec says.

Looks like Logan Fell has finally been replaced! According to the True Blood fansite, The Vault and one of @itsDAWNolivieri’s recent tweets, Dawn Oliveri has been cast as Andie Star, a local newscaster in Mystic Falls. Thanks to The Televixen for the heads up. Here is what The Vault had to say:

True Blood’s Dawn Olivieri , we met her briefly as Alcide’s sister Janice Herveaux, has found a new home in another hot vampire show, The Vampire Diaries. Dawn is in Atlanta right now to shoot her first episode.

Dawn is playing a local newscaster for Mystic Falls named Andie Star.

“It looks like I will be spicing things up shall we say”, she tells The Vault. Andie is recurring in an undisclosed succession of episodes at this point in time.

E!Online is reporting that Stephen Amell has joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries for a guest starring role. He will play a character named Brady, a friend of Mason Lockwood’s who has come to Mystic Falls with a “bone to pick” so to speak. Here’s the scoop.

Insiders confirm to us that a young actor named Stephen Amell has joined the cast of CW’s The Vampire Diaries as a character with a connection to Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) gorgeous uncle. So who is this new kid, exactly, and what role does he play in Mystic Falls’ ongoing werewolf-vampire shenanigans? Here’s what we can reveal:

Producers tell us this about Amell’s character: “Stephen plays Brady—an old friend of Mason Lockwood who blows into town with a vengeance. [He's a] loyal friend or your worst enemy depending on who you are. Did we mention he was hot?” (We believe you about the hotness—good looks and the werewolf gene are quite obviously linked!)

Look for Brady to appear in two episodes, one of which is filming right now.

I have on good authority that The Vampire Diaries is now casting for Klaus and he is scheduled to appear in episode 2.16. For all of you wondering what Klaus is going to be like, here’s a little description to whet your appetite.

Ok…so. What do you guys think? Let the dream casting begin!

Michael Ausiello is reporting via Movieline that Michaela McManus (One Tree Hill’s Lindsey) will be joining The Vampire Diaries in a recurring role as “Jules”, a friend to Mason Lockwood that comes to Mystic Falls searching for him. I’m assuming this is our “sun-kissed” beauty we previously heard about. Here’s the scoop!

Onetime Law & Order: SVU ADA Michaela McManus has booked a recurring role on The Vampire Diaries, sources confirm to me exclusively. The actress will play Jules, a friend of Mason Lockwood’s who comes to Mystic Falls looking for the MIA werebeast (little does she know he got his heart ripped out by Damon two weeks ago).

The gig brings McManus back into the CW fold, where she spent two seasons as One Tree Hill’s Lindsey.

Her first Diaries episode is slated to air in December.

Thanks to Carina Mackenzie of Zap2It for posting this exciting news! Lauren Cohan (best known for her role on Supernatural, as Bela Talbot), has been cast as “Rose”. Here’s the scoop!

Rose is over 500 years old and described as disarmingly elegant despite a “tough girl” first impression. Five centuries of bloodsucking have given her a certain edge. “Maybe there’s some humanity left in her — have fun finding it,” my source says.

She’s expected to make her first appearance in Episode 8, titled “Rose” — yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.

Here’s a new spoiler/casting tidbit via Ausiello:

Question: I think you’ve been a little stingy with The Vampire Diaries scoop. How about some enlightenment? —Robin

Ausiello: How about some casting scoop? She Spies alum (and season 7 American Idol almost-finalist) Natashia Williams has landed the role of Lucy, a mysterious hipster who possesses a fun swagger. How’s that for a vague spoiler?

Also TV Fanatic has some more on the casting!

TV Guide’s Keck’s Exclusives is reporting that Maiara Walsh will be joining the cast of The Vampire Diaries. She will be playing Sarah, sounds like another love interest for Jeremy.

Maiara Walsh, who played Gaby’s and Carlos’ bratty, over-sexed niece Ana on last season’s Desperate Housewives, is headed to Mystic Falls to cause even more trouble. In Vampire Diaries’ Oct. 7 episode, the 22-year-old actress will appear as Sarah, a high schooler who likes to party. Woo-hoo! Crack open the coffins and pour me some blood!

Vampire Diaries executive producer Kevin Williamson tells me, “Sarah is a girl who sets her eyes on Jeremy and encourages him to party it up at the Lockwood house.” (And by Lockwood house, we’re now talking Werewolf Central.)

Since Maiara now has a good chance of being killed off by both vampires and werewolves, I wish her the best of luck in Mystic Falls.

What are they doing to us?? Once again, Jules and Kev have cast another person we will probably fall madly in love with, that we are going to see come and go! It’s ok I guess, as long as they just keep them coming! Many thanks to @Shirarose1 for alerting us to this news! Simon Miller (CSI: Miami, Gossip Girl) has been cast in a flashback episode as “George Lockwood”. Here’s the news via PR Newswire:

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ — Simon Miller has been set to guest star on the “Memory Lane” episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.  He plays George Lockwood, the patriarch in a long-line of werewolves in the town of Mystic Falls. However, George must conspire with Katherine, his mortal enemy, played by series star Nina Dobrev, in order to save himself and his blood-line.

Vampire Diaries casting news via PRWeb:

“Disney veteran Tiya Sircar (“The Suite Life on Deck,” “Hannah Montana”) has joined the cast of popular CW series “The Vampire Diaries” in a guest-starring role as Amiee Bradley, a high school student who becomes involved in the supernatural activities in Mystic Falls.

“It’s been so much fun working with such a great cast,” says Sircar. “I’d love to come back for more episodes, but nobody is safe in Mystic Falls! Working with the boys in this show could make a girl’s head spin. They’re all so easy on the eyes. But what’s better, they happen to be really sweet as well.”

Sircar’s potentially recurring role will debut in episode three of the upcoming second season of the series. But Sircar is no stranger to working with hunky leading men. Her role in the 2009 blockbuster “17 Again” had Sircar slapping teen sensation Zac Efron, on whom her character had a major crush. In her next big screen role in the upcoming comedy “Friends with Benefits” Sircar is working with the king of sexy himself, Justin Timberlake.

Named one of the 40 hottest South Asians in the World by Anokhi Magazine, Sircar made the 2010 Sexy & Successful List. After popping up in fashion magazines for her red carpet style, Sircar took time out of her filming schedule last summer to give fans organic and eco-friendly beauty advice as a celebrity guest editor for BeautyBlitz.
