Thanks to @VDSource for alerting us to this piece on Ian Somerhalder with Vegas Magazine. Not only do we get a cool new photo, but we found out how Vegas holds a special significance for Ian when he got the call to audition for The Vampire Diaries. Also, he mentions his favorite places to dine in Vegas and his favorite home cooked dishes. Head on over to Vegas Magazine to check it out!

Zap2It spoke with Ian yesterday about his foundation:

“It’s a collaborative spirit. This is about educating and empowering people globally, especially the youth, to start acting now and understand that their environment and they have to start learning how to protect it. Education is going to be our greatest tool,” Somerhalder says. “Kids are fed up with the way the environment is being treated by people in power. We just have to give them the education and the tools to do something about it, and they will.”

He plans to work in collaboration with both Conservation International and Pew Charitable Trusts to encourage kids. “We’re going to be able able to put together contests and really cool educational trips for schools, whether it’s underprivileged or even over-privileged kids, rural or urban areas,” he explains. “I’m so stoked about this.”

LA Times Showtracker‘s Vlada Gelman, (@stayingin) gets Julie Plec to offer up six teasers, some of which will surface in the next couple of episodes, and a few to get us through the upcoming holiday hiatus. Here in particular, she shares some info on the Jeremy/Bonnie/Luka triangle.

Pick your love triangle: Tyler, Caroline and Matt aren’t the only complicated love triangle in town. “We’ve kind of set a lot of these little triangles in motion,” says Plec. “So the next episode…really gets us deep into all the triangles in the show.”

Even though Bonnie (Katerina Graham) bonded with warlock Luka (Bryton James) in the last episode and forgot all about Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), don’t count him out just yet. Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) little brother Jeremy will continue to step up and come into his own. “Jeremy kind of does something in the next week episode to let his feelings be known in a very dramatic and risky way,” says Plec, adding, “His actions make his feelings clear.”

Thanks to @awolfinarcadia for the heads up on this video. It’s been posted a while, but my first time seeing it today, so I thought I would share. Young Hollywood Studios posted a behind the scenes “Studio Secrets” video shortly after Ian’s interview a few weeks ago. Fortunately, Ian’s segment is at the beginning.

I tweeted this earlier yesterday, and thanks to the lovely @ShiraRose1 for the heads up! Dose.ca has a great interview up with Nina Dobrev. She talks about the challenges she faces in playing two roles.

The roles aren’t without their challenges: she admits that she sometimes struggles to understand Katherine’s motivations, especially her die-hard love for Stefan.

“I honestly don’t even know [why she loves him],” Dobrev says sheepishly. “They tell me that when I play Katherine, ‘Oh, she loves Stefan.’ ‘Oh, really? Why?’ ‘Don’t worry about it. She just loves Stefan.’ That’s what they tell me. I have to make up my own backstory and hope that it’s right.”

As for Elena’s relationship with the Salvatores, Dobrev praises its layered, complicated nature and commends the writers for not backing off for the sake of convenience.

“She’s with the two boys out of circumstance. They keep worming their way into her life and complicating it very much; as much as she loves them, they pose a lot of problems for her and her family – and her survival,” she emphasizes. “At the same time, you can’t help who you love. As much as she fights it, she has this undeniable chemistry with Damon and she has this love for Stefan. As horrible as it is and as much danger as it puts her in, she can’t get away from them.”

Twitter and the web is all a buzz this evening about a potential Vampire Diaries Companion series in “ultra” early stages of development. E!Online‘s Kristin Dos Santos, Deadline and THR all reporting the news!

Via Deadline:

Vampire Diaries co-creator/ executive producer Kevin Williamson is working on a new supernatural drama project, envisioned as a potential companion for the CW’s flagship vampire drama. The untitled project, which is in early stages of development at Warner Bros. TV for the CW, is described as “The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” It focuses on a group of people who investigate paranormal happenings. I hear that that Williamson’s fellow Vampire Diaries co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec is in talks to come onboard and co-write the project with him.

This sounds really interesting. I’m very excited to hear more information about this potential project! What are you guys thinking? Sounds off in the comments!
